Papdi Chaat (पापडी चाट) Recipe

Here’s a tasty and easy Indian Chaat Recipe – the perfect street-food-style snack that’s spicy, tangy, crunchy, and refreshing. Chaat can be made with many bases (papdi, aloo tikki, samosa, or even sprouted beans)

Ingredients
  

  • Papdi crispy flour crackers – 12–15
  • Boiled potatoes – 2 chopped
  • Boiled chickpeas or kala chana – ½ cup
  • Onion – 1 small finely chopped
  • Tomato – 1 small finely chopped
  • Green chilies – 1 optional, finely chopped
  • Curd yogurt, whisked – ½ cup
  • Tamarind chutney – 3 tbsp
  • Green chutney mint-coriander – 2 tbsp
  • Sev thin fried gram flour noodles – ½ cup
  • Kumbh Chaat masala – 1 tsp
  • Kumbh Roasted cumin powder – ½ tsp
  • Kumbh Red chili powder – ½ tsp
  • Black salt – ½ tsp adjust to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish
  • Pomegranate seeds – 2 tbsp optional, for freshness

Method
 

Step 1: Arrange the Base
  1. Place papdis on a plate (4–5 per serving).
  2. Add chopped boiled potatoes and chickpeas on top.
Step 2: Add Flavors
  1. Spoon whisked curd generously over the papdi.
  2. Drizzle tamarind chutney and green chutney.
Step 3: Sprinkle Spices
  1. Add Kumbh chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and black salt.
Step 4: Garnish
  1. Top with sev, onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, and pomegranate seeds.

Notes

Masala chai or cold drinks
Keep papdi crunchy by serving instantly
Always whisk curd till smooth and slightly sweetened for best taste.
Add chutneys just before serving so papdi doesn’t get soggy.
You can use samosa, dahi vada, aloo tikki, or sprouts instead of papdi as the base for variation.
